December Income Report

My Income Report for December 2015

This is my fourth income report and also the fourth full month of LoganDurst.com. In this income report I will also share traffic numbers from Google Analytics, Youtube Analytics, Twitter Analytics, and Similar Web.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics DEC 2015

Similar to November you can see the traffic increasing at the end of the month.

Google Analytics NOV X DEC 2015

Comparing traffic in Google Analytics shows a 2% decrease in total users from November to December. Not too bad, and I'm glad to see New Sessions up 9%, Average Session Duration up 67%, and Bounce Rate is down 4%. Getting new visitors and they are staying longer.

Similar Web

Similar Web DEC 2015

Similar Web shows a different story than Google Analytics. Going from 1,000 estimated visits in November, up to 2,000 estimated visits in December.

Twitter Analytics

Twitter Analytics

Got some more Twitter action in December than in November.

Twitter Analytics NOV 2015

Youtube Analytics

YouTube Analytics DEC 2015

Still getting some views on Youtube even though I haven't put up any new videos since the first one in August. Total views are 134.

Youtube Analytics NOV 2015

Income

ebook : $1.71

Affiliate Income: $41.01

Google Adsense: $0.07

Total Income

$42.79

December was a $32.79 decrease from the $75.58 I made in November.  Affiliate income is still the majority of the revenue here, and it's interesting to see that this month all of the Affiliate income was from a different Affiliate. I'm working on my second ebook to publish on Amazon. Goal is to have it up in February. If you are interested in seeing details of which Affiliates I make money with each month, sign up below.

This is my third income report and also the third full month of LoganDurst.com. In this income report I will also share traffic numbers from Google Analytics, Youtube Analytics, Twitter Analytics, and Similar Web.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics NOV 2015

I really didn't work on this site until late November as you can see by the traffic increasing at the end of the month.

Google Analytics NOV x OCT 2015

Comparing traffic in Google Analytics shows a 13% increase in total users from October to November. Not a lot, but nice to see an increase without much effort.

Similar Web

Similar Web NOV 2015

Similar Web shows a different story than Google Analytics. Going from 4,000 estimated visits in October, down to 1,000 estimated visits in November.

Twitter Analytics

Twitter Analytics NOV 2015

Less activity in November than in October.

Twitter Analytics October 2015

Youtube Analytics

Youtube Analytics NOV 2015

Still haven't put up any new videos since the first one in August. Total views are 110.

Income

ebook : $2.08

Affiliate Income: $73.50

Total Income

$75.58

Unfortunately I didn't really put any effort here so November was similar to October because I was busy with building a couple new niche sites. November was a $0.01 increase over the $75.57 I made in October.  Affiliate income is still the majority of the revenue here. Hopefully in the near term I can find time to publish another ebook on Amazon.

Modafinil

Modafinil

Modafinil is the real deal!

I first watched the movie Limitless a few years ago and loved it. Who wouldn't enjoy entertaining the idea of simply taking a pill each day and becoming more intelligent by an order of magnitude.

At the time I might have spent a few minutes searching online for such pill, but with no luck. Fast forward a few years and I was watching an episode of Joe Rogan's podcast with Tim Ferriss on as a guest.

After seeing that I decided to do some more research. Here's a video I came across by ABC.

Here's a link to the Wikipedia page about Modafinil. There's a few links at the bottom of the Wikipedia page that detail the military use of Modafinil.

I also found a good article on Slate.com

The obvious problem is that if you don't have narcolepsy, sleep apnea, or shift work sleep disorder, it may be difficult to convince your doctor to prescribe Modafinil to you. Even if you did get a prescription, the name brand Nuvigil is pretty expensive as you can see here.

I looked around and decided to place my first order from ModafinilCat.com

ModafinilCat

The purchase experience was surprisingly simple. Their "ModaTrack" email alerts were great. Every day or two I would get an update of my purchase in transit. I think my first order got to my house in about 9 days.

ModafinilCat Options

I bought the Modalert the first time. On my commute to work, I took half a pill (100mg). Within about 20 minutes I felt it. Clarity. Faster thought speed. Creativity.

income report October 2015

October Income Report

My Income Report for October 2015

This is my second income report and also the second full month of LoganDurst.com. In this income report I will also share traffic numbers from Google Analytics, Youtube Analytics, Twitter Analytics, and Similar Web.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics October 2015

The spike in traffic on October 12th came from the one post that I published here

Google Analytics SEPT x OCT 2015

Comparing traffic in Google Analytics shows a 161% increase in total sessions from September to October.

Similar Web

Similar Web October

400% traffic growth Month Over Month.

Twitter Analytics

Twitter Analytics October 2015

You can see a huge improvement in the numbers from September to October. I get a lot of my website traffic from Facebook and Twitter right now. You can see the tools I use to do that here. Personally I use Twitter and don't get on Facebook unless I'm managing ads or pages.

Youtube Analytics

YouTube Analytics OCT 2015

Still haven't put up any new videos since the first one in August. Total views are 96.

Income

ebook : $2.07

Affiliate Income: $73.50

Total Income

$75.57

Not bad for a 2 month old blog that I neglected for 2/3's of the month. I didn't post anything here since the 12th because I was really busy with building a couple new niche sites. October was a $62.41 increase over the $13.16 I made in September.  I'm starting to see that some affiliate programs are better than others and have adjusted link placement based on a few different metrics. I only share full affiliate income details with my email subscribers. Thanks for reading.

income report September 2015

My Income Report for September 2015

This is my first income report and also the first full month of LoganDurst.com. In this income report I will also share traffic numbers from Google Analytics, Youtube Analytics, Twitter Analytics, and Similar Web.

Google Analytics

You can see where I actually installed the google analytics script on September 5th, so I don't have data for the first 4 days of this month. With no previous following and no backlinks I was able to generate 206 sessions from 126 unique visitors.

Similar Web

These numbers are a little off, but they will get more accurate as my site ages. I chose to include Similar Web stats because they have the most accurate data of the services that offer it.

Twitter Analytics

You can see a huge improvement in the numbers from August to September. I get a lot of my website traffic from Facebook and Twitter right now. You can see the tools I use to do that here.

Youtube Analytics

To be honest, I had kind of forgotten about my Youtube channel. You can see that I only have 1 video live right now. It's a powerful tool to drive traffic and going forward I will be trying to publish at least 2 videos per month.

Income

ebook : $13.16 (July - September)

Total Income

$13.16

Obviously $13.16 is nothing to get too excited about. The most important thing is that I started and I've learned a ton over the month of September. I've made some connections with some cool and like-minded kids online from around the world. I began building a couple new niche sites that I will talk more about in the future when there is more to show. October is going to be an exciting month. Thanks for reading.

IFTTT

I recently started using IFTTT ( IF This Then That ) recipes. There are a lot of different uses for IFTTT and a lot of lists out there of recipes. I'm going to list here a few of the recipes that I personally use to help automate my marketing.

IFTTT  allows you to connect two services together so that an action from one service triggers an action at the other service.

For example, you could have an email trigger a tweet, or a Instagram post could trigger a save in your Dropbox account.

IFTTT has more than 200 channels that you can connect. You are going to love the functionality that it provides once you start to use it.

Here are the some IFTTT channels that will be most important to you:

  • Facebook (profiles, pages, and groups)
  • Twitter
  • Buffer
  • Instagram
  • LinkedIn
  • Reddit
  • Tumblr
  • YouTube
  • Pinterest
  • Pocket
  • Dropbox
  • Evernote
  • Feedly
  • Soundcloud
Ultimate List-Building Plugin for WordPress

You can make a recipe by linking two of these channels together. There is also a full library of popular recipes on IFTTT that others have already created. You can use the recipes created already or create your own. I would suggest trying a few of the already made recipes before creating your own.

Once you have selected the recipes you will connect them to the channels you have selected. For example if you choose the recipe that will atomically post your Instagram pics to Twitter as a native twitter photo, you will be asked to sign into each social media channel and authorize IFTTT. Don't worry, IFTTT is not going to spam your social media account or creep on your friends.

Once you have your recipes active they will show up in a list. Here you can manually run a recipe or turn it off without deleting it. You can also edit or delete the recipes. Here are a few of my favorite IFTTT recipes to use:

If you post a photo to Instagram, IFTTT will automatically post that photo to Twitter as a native photo. This is important because if you were to just push the photo to Twitter by linking in the Instagram app, the photo will not look as good on Twitter.

If a Twitter user send a tweet containing (whatever you choose) Then add that user to a list. You can choose the search term to be another user, a hashtag, a word, or a combination of words. Twitter lists are a great tool for building a focused marketing list of people that are tweeting about topics related to you and your marketing efforts.

Buffer also created an extensive list of IFTTT recipes you can see here.

Logan Durst Buffer
Logan Durst Buffer

I've been trying out Buffer for the last week and it's pretty awesome. If you are looking for a tool that will help you get more traffic to your website then I would suggest trying Buffer.

Using Buffer will save you time by allowing you to easily schedule posts to your social media accounts. I've been using it to schedule my posts on Twitter and Facebook.

I've noticed an increase in traffic to my website after just a week of using it and at the time of this post, I don't have much of a fan base. If you are monetizing your blog with Google Adwords or selling something directly from your website, increasing traffic is your top priority.

You can also use Buffer for link shortening. You should use a link shortener if you aren't already. I wrote a post comparing the top available link shorteners here.

I have only been using Buffer's free service so far, but upgrading to their paid subscription will be the next thing that I pay for. You can check out Logan's Toolbox to see all the tools I use on my sites and social media.

  • Mentions up 287.5%

twitter ninja

Twitter can be a daunting social media platform for new users. I don't even think I sent a single tweet for the first 3 months after I signed up. I used it more as a tool to follow other people or companies that are related to my interests.

As I became more familiar with Twitter and more confident in myself I soon realized that I don't even wait at a stop light or stand in line somewhere without scrolling trough my Twitter feed.

If you follow the right people, you can learn a lot. And the rate at which you can learn is ultra fast. Twitter has evolved quite a bit over the years so I want to give you some useful tips that will have you feeling like a Twitter Ninja.

Ultimate List-Building Plugin for WordPress

1. Use hashtags

If you want to get noticed in the crowd, my first Twitter Ninja hack is really important. The more you use hashtags, the more engagement you’ll get on your tweets. Tweets with hashtags are proven to double your engagement rate, grow more followers, improve reputation, and gain information.

2. Add an image to your tweet.

Your tweets will standout in the twitter feed if you include an image. Twitter Ninjas know that, anything extra you can do to stand out on twitter should be your goal. Even if you tweet is not about a specific image that you have, google whatever the main topic of your tweet is and add it to your tweet.

Hint: You can tag people in images also.

3. Use the list feature.

Lists on Twitter can be used for a variety of reasons. Let's say you are following 400 people and as you scroll through your feed it is just a hot mess of randomness. Breakout the different categories of people you follow and put them into a list.

Example: Create a list of tech focused people and companies and add them all to a list. Now, when you are on twitter and want to see whats going on in tech, you can go to that list and scroll through a feed of only the tech focused Twitter profiles that you have added.

Make sure you are aware of the privacy setting on the list you create. People you add to a list will be notified if the privacy is not set to private. Also keep in mind that anyone who clicks on your profile can view any lists you have that are not private.

Tip for marketers: Create a list of anyone who mentions you or a hashtag that is related to your target market. Now you have a list of people that you can easily access for your own research or to send highly targeted tweets.

4. Tweet between 8 am to 1 pm and 5 pm to 11pm EST, Monday through Thursday

Just kidding. The truth is you should tweet a lot and whenever you have time. The more you tweet and the more hashtags you use, the more visibility you will get. The time you tweet is relative to you want to see your tweets. Are you simply trying to get noticed? Then you should tweet just before 9 am, around noon, and at 5 pm in the time zone you want to get noticed in.

If you are marketing a product or your services and using Twitter as a platform to gain new customers then you should be tweeting at the times above in relation to the time zone of your target market. ( You do know your target market, don't you? )

Social Media management tools like Buffer have a ton of true data about when the best times are to increase your potential influence by choosing the best times to tweet.

5. Follow the trends.

Twitter does a great job of letting its users know what topics or people are trending. Use this as leverage to get yourself noticed by adding you voice to the trending topic. Do a quick analysis of what the topic is and  what hashtags are involved before you join the conversation. Use the other Twitter Ninja Hacks in this post and send a tweet that will get noticed with the trending topic.

6. Put hashtags in your bio

If you put hashtags in your bio, people will be able to find you better when they perform searches. Also, a person can find you if they click on a hashtag in someones tweet that they follow.

7. Stop the emails.

Are you sick of getting tons of emails from Twitter? Turn them all off.

Go to your profile, click the gear icon, settings, and toggle the email settings to your preference.

8. Add links in your tweets.

Depending on your overall goals for using twitter, adding links to your tweets will be different for different users. If you are a blogger trying to drive traffic to your blog, then obviously you should be putting a link in your tweet back to your blog

Ninja tip: Using a link shortener can be very useful in your overall marketing strategy. I wrote a post about one of the popular link shorteners here.

Even if you are just a casual user on Twitter and you aren't marketing a product or service, adding a link in your tweet still adds value to  the tweet. If you find yourself not knowing what to tweet about sometimes, just copy the URL of the next webpage you find interesting and send it in a tweet with your short comment.

9. Don't ReTweet, Quote Tweet.

If you only retweet something then you are basically saying to everyone, "I found this interesting, but I'm too lazy to type my comment about it". If you simply retweet, then you are missing a prime opportunity to add you personalization on it. It will show up in the feed but whatever it is you retweeted is going to get noticed, not you.

Another big reason you should "Quote Tweet" instead of retweeting is you don't get to add hashtags that help it target the audience you want to see it. The person you retweet is less likely to engage a retweet than a quoted tweet.

Example:

10. Favorite things now for later.

Stop using the favorites feature to show you "like" a person tweet. It's practically useless for you. It doesn't go in your feed, they aren't going to engage with you after you favorite their tweet.

Use the favorite feature as a reading list to bookmark tweets that you want to reference later, or that have a link to a long article that you don't have time to read now but you don't want to forget about.

Hint: In your profile when you got to your favorites, the tweets you favorite are in order of date the tweet was sent, not the order that you favorited a tweet.

11. Sign up for Twitter analytics

Twitter's analytics tool is not only FREE, it's awesome. It's awesome on mobile and more awesome on desktop. It only takes a minute to sign up at analytics.twitter.com.

The analytics tool gives you a lot of invaluable insight about the level of engagement you are getting from your tweets. After you have signed up you can click on a specific tweet that you sent out to see how it performed. On mobile when you do this you will see a small graph icon next to the words "view tweet activity". Click this and you will see how many impressions the tweet had, total engagements, details expands, link clicks, replies, and profile clicks.

Viewing you analytics in full browser will give you even more great information like, a summary of activity over a time period showing how many tweets you sent, total tweet impressions, profile views, mentions, followers, and tweets linking to you.

12. Tweet more.

Twitter is different than other social media platforms when it comes to deciding on how often to "post" something. The twitter feed of your followers is very crowded and you could spend a lot of time preparing the greatest tweet with the perfect image and all the hashtags and a link to your website, but right as you hit tweet, your target client closes the app.

You might think that doesn't matter because when they come back they will see it. Chances are they won't. Since you sent that tweet, the other couple hundred people that user follows also sent tweets and when the user comes back, their feed will refresh to the most current tweet in their feed.

This is why you should tweet more often than you feel comfortable with. You can recycle old tweets so you aren't sending the same tweet 8 times a day or you can use one of the many services that help you automate and schedule your tweets.

sniply

sniply

I'm trying this thing called sniply. Have you tried it yet? It let's you share content with a custom and personalized link that stays on the content you share. Here's a quick example:

Pretty Cool Huh? You can use it with any link, like these from Nike or TechCrunch.

I've been using sniply when I share any links on FB or Twitter. I really like the analytics that I get from sniply on the links that I share. You can see how many clicks your "snip" gets and other important information like conversion rate and bounce rate.

Sniply Dashboard

Imagine being able to link your readers to content and then going with them to continue the conversation. You could literally walk a reader from site to site to site as far as you wanted to go.

Try it out and let me know what you think. You can find me on twitter.

How I Made This Website

I made this website in about 5 minutes using a few tools that I'll briefly detail here.

I registered the domain name with namecheap because I found them to be one of the cheapest and easiest to use.

If you do a general Google search for domain name registration and click on the top ten and begin the process of purchasing your domain name, you will find that they all have different prices and each one has a different process you go through from the name search to actually paying of the domain. For me, namecheap is the easiest to use and one of the cheapest.

Namecheap.com

I signed up for hosting with HostGator which has been awesome so far. I haven't tried BlueHost yet, but I might in the future just because I'm curious. HostGator has a pretty cool setup and you can even run multiple domains on the same hosting plan.

After trying out a few free WordPress themes I decided to search for a premium theme that would give me more than I was getting from the free ones. After a lot of research and comparing different options I ended paying for an annual membership with Thrive Themes that gives me access to all of their themes and plugins.

This theme is called Ignition and is the only one I have tried yet from them. I like it enough and I think I'll stick with it for a while until I can learn all the ins and outs of it.

All this sounds easy but it can get clunky along the way. Sometimes you need someone to show you exactly how to do something and ask questions when you get stuck. If you need more help building your first website you can join our community where you can access a bunch of step by step tutorials, ask a question in the forum, and learn the best ways to monetize your website.
